RULES
-
The NFF Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest gives youth a chance to learn and develop their thinking and public speaking skills. Participation shall be restricted to bona fide 4-H and FFA members. It is not necessary for a youth to enter cattle to participate in the Quiz Bowl. Youth will register as individuals to be assigned to a two to four person team, depending on the number of participants. Youth who have never participated in Quiz Bowl before are encouraged to do so.
-
There will be a junior and senior division. Since this is the first time a Quiz Bowl Contest will be held at the NFF, the contest coordinators reserve the right to make the age break between juniors and seniors flexible based on the number, experience and ages of participating youth.
-
Given time constraints, the Quiz Bowl will be single or double elimination, depending on the number of teams participating. Teams will be asked 15 toss-up questions, each worth 10 poiints, in each round. The first team member to buzz in with an answer will be asked to wait until their name is called, then given the opportunity to answer. There will be no deductions for wrong answers. If one team gives an incorrect answer, the opposing team will be given the opportunity to give an answer to the same question. If a contestant feels their answer was correct after the judge had deemed it incorrect, the contestant must bring up their objection before the next question is asked. The judge's ruling on answers is final.
-
Questions for the Quiz Bowl Contest will all relate to dairy cattle nutrition and ruminant digestive tract anatomy and physiology.
-
Youth are encouraged to register early to take a written test of 20 questions prior to the contest. There will be individual awards given for the written test and it will be used to help determine team membership.
-
Suitable recognition will be made to high contest team members during the awards ceremony held immediately after the dairy show.
-
Please contact Mary Sowerby (386-362-2771) for sample questions and study information.
